Latest News [index] Leaky building help

18 May, 2010

The Government has announced a new financial assistance proposal aimed at getting faster help for the owners of leaky homes. The proposal would see the cost of repairs shared between homeowners, City Councils and the Government on a 50%/25%/25% basis.

The new package would be in addition to the current disputes and litigation processes available to owners of leaky homes. However, if Government assistance is used the homeowners will not be able to sue local authorities or the Crown in relation to the same leaky building claim.

The new proposal is dependent on local authorities and banks agreeing to be involved. Details of the package will be made available after the local authorities, which have until 31 May 2010 to confirm involvement.
